No Surprises Act
You have a right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) explaining what your medical and mental health care treatment will cost. Under law, health care providers need to provide patients who don’t have insurance or don’t plan to use insurance an estimate of expected charges for medical services. As a recipient of psychotherapy services, you are entitled to receive a GFE detailing potential charges. Although it is impractical for a psychotherapist to predict the exact number of sessions required, an estimate of monthly service costs can be provided. Total expenses depend on the number of sessions attended, individual circumstances, and the type of services provided.
You can ask your health care provider for this GFE before you schedule a service.
